Deceptive Feeq Kick Wins Game At The Death

by Boonadine Limdane

It was all doom and gloom in the AC United camp when they were down 2-0 at halftime. But 2 goals from each Wan and a tremendous freekick from deadball specialist Taufeeq meant AC United kicked off their maiden season in the Sports4U Bavarian Marques Championship One 2019/2020 league with 3 points in the bag!

Things could not have started off worse. With a handful of players late, the team in yellow could only kick off with 10 men on the field. But there was still enough quality in their ranks to hold opponents Stealth Sandilos (SS) until the numbers evened up 15 minutes later.

The defence was made up of Zad in goal, and a back 4 of Alex, DQ, Boonk and new boy Joel. Hafiz and Salihin started in CM, Benny on the left and Smallboy on the right. Big man Ahmed played the lone striker role, until new boy Kit joined up with him up front.

Still, the early scramble for players seemed to play in the minds of the players, with passing going astray, runs in disarray. It was no surprise when SS got the lead. A long ball behind the AC backline was misjudged by all 4 defenders, leaving 3 SS strikers through on goal. Even the mighty ChariZAD was unable to stop them drawing first blood.

If that wasn't enough, we gifted them another goal 10 minutes later.

A fierce driven freekick was superbly saved by the diving Zad, but SS were first to react, stabbing the loose ball into the net to double their lead and at the same time, plunge AC United deeper into the depths of dispair.

Aidil and Haiqal were quickly brought on to turn the tide, but were unable to inspire a lucklustre AC United.

After the break, a seemingly different AC United took to the field. With desire in their eyes and fire in their bellies, the opening minutes showed that things were about to get nasty!

The back 4, now with Faz at leftback and Hafiz in the middle, were oozing confidence as they stamped out any hint of an attack by their opposite numbers. Taufeeq, Salihin and Ridhwan were purring like a well-oiled machine, spraying passes around with ease. Up front, Eizwan, Hafeez and Haiqal were hassling the SS defence, pressing them back and forcing mistakes.

The dam finally broke, with the chief tormentor Eizwan grabbing AC United's first goal of the season. Ridhwan received a short pass in the middle of the park and with a quick turn, beat his marker before finding Eizwan with a quick pass. The prolific striker, with nary a backlift, smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the net before anyone even reacted. One goal back!

But the euphoria was shortlived when the goalscorer was sent off soon after, leaving AC United with a mountain to climb. Throwing caution to the wind, Boonk was taken off for Syad to come in and in spite of the numerical disadvantage, AC United continued to dominate.

It wasn't long before the provider of the first goal turned scorer. Salihin sent a searching ball to the foot of Ridhwan, who cleverly turned his marker before sidefooting the ball under the onrushing keeper and into the goal to make it 2-2!

SS were beginning to crack under pressure while the yellow army swarmed all over them like ants on a pile of sugar. Ahmed was brought in to heap further turmoil on the beleaguered SS team. With time running down, it looks like AC United were to be satisfied with a point earned. But Taufeeq didn't get the memo.

Standing over the freekick 30 yards out, the midfield maestro let fly a rocket of a shot that deceived the SS keeper, who could only helplessly palm the ball into his own net to give AC United the goal they have been fighting so hard for.

3-2 to AC United!

There was still time for some late drama when SS were penalised for a backpass. Syad played the ball to Ahmed, who put his entire boot into the offending ball, sending it sailing over the bar, much to the relief of SS.

The game eventually ended 3-2 to AC United.

When quizzed about the team performance, MOTM Ridhwan was adamant that the team did play well int he first period, just that they upped the tempo in the second half to eventually wrest the game away from Stealth Sandilos.

"We did great throughout the game," said the AC United midfielder. "We played well in the first half, but in the second half we did even better as we fought hard to get the win."

When congratulated for his winning goal, Taufeeq was his usual coy self.

"I was aiming for Syad," said the AC United Midfield maestro. "I still thought Syad headed in the winning goal until after the game the boys told me I was the one who scored."

Humble, as always.
